Ocean Bluff House

Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Ocean Bluff House is a close collaboration with the architects to nestle a new seasonal home into the coastal meadow landscape. The house backs onto a wooded slope, creating a strong sense of prospect and refuge, and offering the opportunity for a sunken private terrace seemingly carved out of the topography – in contrast to the sweeping open vistas on the meadow-side of the house. The project employs local Wallace sandstone carefully detailed on the ground plane and as retaining walls to define different outdoor spaces around the house. The landscape design includes various walking trails that lead to various destinations throughout the site; each with its own unique perspective of the ocean, site, and architecture.
