Vineyard House

Surrounded by a working vineyard, the Vineyard House is inspired by the rhythm of the rows of grape vines, drawing from their strict linear geometries to create an overall framework for the site, and to influence site details and design elements. The landscape is designed for family fun and entertaining; a large terrace with outdoor kitchen and fire pit along the west side overlooks a play lawn and pool, with sunset vineyard views beyond. A pottery studio and kitchen garden provide privacy to the play lawn from the road, without blocking views from the pool terrace. Rows of trees evoke agrarian orchards and traditional allees, and are strategically located along the east-west axis, to the north of the house, to maximize privacy along that edge, while plantings like roses at the ends of rows, lavender, and meadow species evoke traditional vineyard planting and suit the warm microclimate of the Annapolis Valley.
